What began in 1984 as a single salon in Cavendish Close, Claremont, has grown into one of Cape Town's most trusted professional salon groups — a network of 24 salons across the city, built over 40 years on expertise, training, and a genuine passion for hair.

Lewis Thomas
Founder & Owner. Lewis trained with Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy in London before opening his first salon in Claremont in 1984. A two-time SA Hairstylist of the Year and a 2013 Sanlam Entrepreneur of the Year finalist, he built Partners Hair on a simple belief: invest in your people, and the rest follows.
The Training Academy
Opened in 2012, the Partners Hair Design Training Academy offers full NQF 2, 3 and 4 hairdressing qualifications — training our own stylists alongside external learners in a purpose-built, salon-realistic environment. It is how we keep one standard consistent across every chair.

1984
The first salon
Lewis Thomas opens his first Partners Hair salon in Cavendish Close, Claremont — a single chair and an enormous ambition.
1994
Expanding east
Two new salons open at Somerset Mall in Somerset West — a bold bet that became one of the group's busiest locations.
2012
The Training Academy
The Partners Hair Design Training Academy opens, offering full NQF 2, 3 and 4 qualifications and setting the benchmark for professional training in the Western Cape.
2026
24 salons, four brands
Partners Hair now spans 24 salons across Cape Town under four brands — Partners Hair Unisex, Partners Men, Hair Freedom and Barber Republic.
2027
Salon number 25
The group's 25th salon is set to open in early 2027 — continuing four decades of steady, considered growth.
