A salon blowout is really three things: volume, smoothness and shine. You can get all three at home — the only question is which tool. There are two routes: a hot-air brush that dries and styles in one, or a dryer paired with a round brush. Here's how to choose, and how to do it.

The short version

Tool Price (20% off) Best for
Magnitude Hot-Air Brush R1,440 The easiest one-step blowout — volume and smooth
E8 2400W Dryer R1,840 Fast drying with full control using a brush
E9 Aria Smart Dryer R2,800 Fastest, lightweight, lowest heat damage
Round Blow-Dry Brush R236 Pairs with any dryer for salon bends
Moyoko hair dryers
Two routes to a blowout: a hot-air brush, or a dryer and a round brush.

Route 1: the hot-air brush (easiest)

The Magnitude 2-in-1 dries and styles in a single pass. The oval barrel brushes out frizz while adding a smooth, bouncy bend, and the ionic generator keeps it glossy. If you want a one-handed, almost foolproof blowout, this is it. There's also a MINI Magnitude for shorter hair and travel.

Route 2: dryer + round brush (most control)

For a true salon finish, pair a dryer with a round brush. The E8 (2400W) dries fast with moisture-lock technology; the E9 Aria is the smart, lightweight flagship — up to 3× faster with near-zero heat damage. Add a Silver Arch round brush (25–55mm) and you can shape volume, bends and smoothness exactly where you want them.

How to blow-dry at home, step by step

  1. Towel-dry to about 80% and apply a heat protectant.
  2. Rough-dry the roots first for lift.
  3. Section the hair, clipping the top half away.
  4. Working root to tip, draw the hot-air brush (or dryer and round brush) through each section, rolling under at the ends.
  5. Finish each section with a cool shot to set the shape.
  6. Once fully cool, brush through and add a little serum for shine.

Which barrel size?

  • 25–35mm — curl and root volume, and shorter hair.
  • 45–55mm — smoothing and soft bends on medium-to-long hair.

Don't skip heat protectant

Drying is heat too — prep with Beat the Heat, which shields up to 230°C and helps the blowout last.

Frequently asked

Hot-air brush or dryer — which is easier?

The hot-air brush. It does the drying and the shaping in one hand, so it's the most forgiving for a home blowout.

Can I get volume with a hot-air brush?

Yes — lift each section up and away from the roots as you dry, and finish with a cool shot.

Which dryer is best?

The E9 Aria is the fastest and lightest with the lowest heat damage; the E8 is excellent value with strong 2400W power.

How long does a blowout last?

Two to three days if you use a heat protectant, set each section with a cool shot, and avoid touching it too much.
